Three Held For Harassing Woman In Vinukonda
Vijayawada: Police arrested a man and his parents on charges of harassing his wife because she had dark skin and brought bad luck to their family.
At the height of the abuse, the family had moved him away from their home in Thimmayapalem area of Vinukonda in Palnadu district.
According to police, Gopi Lakshmi, who hails from Nadigadda of Vinukonda mandal, married Koteswara Rao of Vinukonda on June 4.
Two months after their marriage, the husband began to disturb his wife, saying that her skin color was dark. Her mother-in-law also harassed her, accusing her of bringing bad luck to the family.
The police complaint from the woman and her family stated that during the marriage, her parents sold two acres of agricultural land and gave Rs 12 lakh and 25 quid of gold as dowry. However, her husband and father-in-law “began harassing her and demanding additional dowry.”
The victim woman held a protest in front of her mother-in-law’s house in search of justice. However, the police said that her husband and mother-in-law locked their house and left.
Following the complaint, the police launched an investigation against the three people and launched an investigation.
