Norway reiterates rejection of Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ after US claim | World News

Norway will not participate in US President Donald Trump’s so-called “Peace Board”, Norway’s foreign ministry said.

Speaking at the opening meeting of the “Peace Board” at the US Institute of Peace, Trump said that the United States would contribute $10 billion to the initiative and claimed that Norway would host a board event, according to Xinhua news agency.

According to the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK), Norwegian foreign ministry spokeswoman Ane Jorem denied the claim and reiterated that Norway would not be a member of the board.

“Norway has clearly communicated that we will not be a member of the Peace Council, and our stance is firm,” Jorem said, as quoted by NRK. he said.

Jorem added that Norway plans to host the spring meeting of the Special Liaison Committee, an international mechanism that coordinates aid to the Palestinians, long chaired by Norway, and that the country is in contact with relevant parties to discuss the Gaza peace plan on this occasion.

Norway is among several European countries, including France, Germany and the United Kingdom, that are excluded from the controversial panel that Trump officially launched on Jan. 22 during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Meanwhile, US President Trump is trying to position the Peace Board as a super-international organization that will oversee the UN and expand its scope beyond Gaza, where it was founded.
