Italian city sees huge drop in hotel and Airbnb bookings as one-in-two rooms are vacant in wake of anti-tourism protests across Europe

A popular Italian city has seen a major decrease in hotels and Airbnb reservations, and two rooms were left empty during the summer between the wave of an anti-tourism protest in Europe.

Florence, hosting Michaelangelo’s David and Duomo Cathedral statue, has seen room reservations last year since May, and local tourism experts expect August to be another slow month.

Monica Rocchini, President of a Local Hoteliers Association, said to the local media: ‘We currently have a room occupancy rate of around 50%.’

When too many rooms are empty, the departure rates for these rooms should also decrease.

Rocchini added that June and July decreased by 15-20% from last year, and that most of them announced that Donald Trump usually canceled the tariffs that lead to cancel the reservations of Americans, who are generally high-spending cohort.

If tourism brings money brings money, the locals may need to change their attitudes: ‘Having tourists does not mean being a tourist, but very little native understands it.’

The anti -tourist protesters come only a few months after targeting the ski centers after branding the words ‘too much’ with bright red letters on a snowy mountain of the Italian natives.

The red slogan, which was deliberately placed under a ski lift, appeared in the Alpe di Siusi ski center in Dolomites.

European Green Party Assembly Member Brigitte Foppa, tourism in the region ‘for years underestimated’ a ‘continuous growth’, he said.

“ They told us that we are the trouble … Now we pay the price, the wound in the society opened, ” he warned.

This did not protest for the first time against the increasing tourists in the region.

Last summer, the locals drew a preferable strip with the word ‘priority’ on the asphalt, and passengers expressed their concerns that tourist masses prevent access to cable cars and cause delays.

Dolomites were compared with Disneyland as the beauty point was overloaded by tourists and so -called impressives.

The images and videos shared on social media shared by angry locals showed that the crowds of holiday producers are clogging a ropeway station that has become increasingly popular thanks to social media in the Seceda region of the Alpine Mountain Series.

A specific video shows a long visitor’s tail that is overly shed into a nearby cafĂ© at the station, while some tourists prevent a ladder while waiting in line.
