Dr. Ramdas Pai’s 90th birthday: A tribute to the architect of modern Manipal

On Tuesday, September 17, 2025, Manipal Higher Education Academy (MAHE) and wider manipal community, MAHE Chancellor and Modern Manipal Architect Padma Bhushan Awardee He celebrated Ramdas Pai’s 90th birthday. On this auspicious occasion, we congratulate the life and time of a pioneer figure that deeply transforms the vision and relentless devotion into a sign of education, health and innovation. Pai’s journey from an ambitious young man to India’s most respected educators and health pioneers is a proof of his commitment to social progress.

I have enjoyed the association of the PAI family with three generations for more than 50 years – the first founder Padma Shri Dr. Under the founder of TMA Pai, as a student at Kasturka Medical College; Later, Padma Bhushan Dr. As a young doctor under Ramdas Pai and his elegant wife Ms. Vasanthi Pai; and recently, one of India’s biggest health institutions, Manipal Health Enterprises, Dr. As a clinician working with Ranjan Pai.

For the last few ten years, Dr. It was a great honor and privilege for me to work under Pai. After returning from the USA, I had the opportunity to start my own hospital, but Dr. He said I prefer to work rather than my own boss for Pai. In manipal hospitals, I was given a free hand to build a department with zero parasites. I never felt like an employee. There was no high hand or chronism in India, which was very common. Dr. Pai sat next to us in planning and problem solving and shared his purpose as a clever leader who never compromises quality or values. Everyone in the organization treated in the same philanthropist. This decision turned out to be a turning point in my life and career.

I have risen from the nefrology advisor to the department manager and now the president of the hospital chain. Working under Pai was really a privilege and honor.
