Dramatic moment man’s alleged 3-year crime spree ends captured on drone footage

A remote-controlled drone assisted in an arrest that ends a three-year police investigation into multiple crimes in western NSW.

Two homes in Moore were reported to have been broken into on March 5, which was investigated by officers with the New England Police District.

A 36-year-old man was arrested with the help of a drone at around 11.40am on Monday.

In the video taken by the drone, the man is seen being chased from the backyard by a group of dogs.

The man appears to have fled before being caught by police.

However, this investigation begins in May 2023 after a vehicle was allegedly stolen from a caravan park on Amaroo Dr in Moree.

Officers later found the vehicle abandoned and burned on George St.

Nearly a year later, on February 27, 2024, officers received reports of an alleged break-in at a home on Hargrave Street in Leumeah.

The same day, just three minutes’ drive away, police received allegations that a man’s bag had been stolen from a hotel on Railway Street in Campbelltown.

It was reported that many purchases were made from the bag by credit card.

Six months later, two separate warrants were issued for the arrest of a 36-year-old man by Campbelltown Local Court and Moree Local Court, according to police.

Following his arrest on Monday, he was taken to Moore Police Station, where two outstanding arrest warrants were executed.

The following charges were brought against him:

  • theft value less than $2,000 (two counts),
  • Entering a vehicle or boat without the owner’s permission,
  • breaking and entering the house etc. steal value
  • Theft of property from a residence worth more than $2000 and less than $5000
  • Stealing house-house goods,
  • stealing less than $2,000 from a person and
  • Dishonestly gaining financial advantage through deception, etc. to obtain.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Division Court 5 on Tuesday.
