‘Dream of Syama Prasad Mukherjee fulfilled’: Dilip Ghosh ahead of BJP govt swearing-in in West Bengal

He said the people have rejected the All India Trinamool Congress and the Indian National Congress for allegedly oppressing people and misusing power.

Speaking to reporters, Ghosh said, “We struggled for a long time and finally the people voted for change. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s dream came true. Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Indian National Congress were rejected by the people because they oppressed the people and abused their power. The people gave them a befitting response and chose the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).”
West Bengal Legislative Party leader Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to take oath of office as chief minister later today as the state enters the BJP government era.
Suvendu is set to become the first BJP CM of West Bengal after the party achieved a thumping victory in the Legislative Assembly elections by securing 207 seats.
Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda and Dharmendra Pradhan, along with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, arrived in Kolkata on Friday to attend the swearing-in ceremony. Many senior BJP leaders are expected to attend the ceremony.
Earlier on Friday, Home Minister Amit Shah announced Adhikari as West Bengal BJP Legislative Party Leader after presiding over a party meeting in Kolkata.Also read: Breaking the eastern barrier: Bengal victory redraws BJP’s political map “I am announcing the name of Suvendu Adhikari who has been elected as the West Bengal BJP Legislative Party Leader,” Shah said. Soon after the announcement, Adhikari met West Bengal Governor RN Ravi and formally expressed his claim to form the BJP government in the state. Senior BJP leaders, including Dilip Ghosh, Locket Chatterjee and Tapas Roy, accompanied Adhikari to Lok Bhavan.
Adhikari expressed his gratitude to BJP national president Nitin Nabin and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Speaking to reporters after his appointment, the elected CM said, “I express my gratitude to the national president, Amit Shah. I was elected as the Legislative Party Leader with the approval of the Prime Minister. I received support from all MLAs. There is democracy in the BJP. We will fulfill the promise made by the BJP on behalf of the organization and the people during the elections.”
Adhikari won both Nandigram and Bhabanipur seats in the 2026 elections. She repeated Nandigram 2021, this time defeating departing CM Mamata Banerjee from Bhabanipur by a margin of over 15,000 votes.
