Drug dealer jailed after filming himself driving at 119mph while banned

A drug dealer has been handed a serious prison sentence after brazenly filming himself driving while disqualified at speeds of up to 129 miles per hour.

John Scott, 36, of Spinney Drive, East Harling, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison at Norwich Crown Court on Thursday. Norfolk Constabulary confirmed he had previously admitted being concerned about the supply of cocaine, possession of cannabis and dangerous driving.

Footage released by police shows Scott filming himself speeding down a single country road on December 7, with loud music playing in the background, with the speedometer climbing to 199mph. In another clip, Scott was recorded singing, smoking and driving while wearing sunglasses and topless.

Both videos were filmed while Scott was in the middle of his previous five-year driving ban.

Investigating officer Pc Charlie Large said: “John Scott showed a complete disregard for the safety of others, both through his involvement in drug supply and his dangerous driving.

“We know that drugs cause real harm in our communities, destroying lives and driving more crime. We are committed to tackling those like Scott who choose to profit from this misery.”

He added: “Also, Scott’s repeated use of his mobile phone while driving, combined with the extreme speeds he filmed himself reaching, is astonishing. It is remarkable that no one was harmed.”

Scott was arrested on December 12 by police officers who recognized him as someone wanted for drug crimes. His phone was seized and found to be used to facilitate the supply of cocaine in the Breckland area. Police also discovered several videos recorded by Scott while he was driving dangerously.

Video from December 7 showed Scott reaching speeds of 104mph along the A1066 from Thetford to Diss before turning onto the country road where he reached speeds of 199mph. On 16 June, a film was filmed of her singing to the camera while driving near the village of Banham.

Pc Large concluded: “I hope today’s sentence will act as a deterrent to anyone considering becoming involved in drug supply or engaging in such reckless behavior behind the wheel on Norfolk roads.”
