Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force and H-NEW YVS Sudheendra said Okoro came to Mumbai in 2012 on a business visa. He earned his living by dealing with the ready-made clothing business. Upon examination, it was revealed that his passport and visa had expired.
The foreign national was traveling frequently between Bangalore and Hyderabad and was residing illegally in India. Moreover, he got involved in drug dealing activities to earn easy money. He was also caught by the police while he was moving suspiciously within the limits of Asifnagar police station.
When questioned, he was unable to give a reasonable explanation. During the detailed search, no drugs were found or seized. In addition, with the cooperation of FRRO, efforts were made to determine the real identity of the person and to verify passport and visa information.
It was learned that he first entered India in 2012 with a business visa. However, since both his visa and passport have expired, he stays in the country illegally for too long before returning to his country. It was also revealed that he was involved in drug dealing activities to earn easy money and was leading a lavish lifestyle with the proceeds from such illegal activities.
H-NEW, in coordination with FRRO, successfully deported the foreign national in question to his country of origin.
Since its inception, H-NEW has apprehended and deported a total of 22 foreign nationals residing illegally in India. 10 of them were arrested and deported this year alone on the grounds that they had overstayed their visas and had expired passports.
The DCP added that in close coordination with the FRRO, H-NEW successfully facilitated the deportation of all apprehended persons to their home countries, ensured strict compliance with immigration laws and strengthened national security efforts.
