Earthquake Of 3.8 Magnitude Strikes Myanmar | World News

A 3.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in Myanmar on Monday evening. According to preliminary data, the tremors were recorded at 17.39. The epicenter occurred at a depth of 139 km, latitude 24.96°N and longitude 95.12°E.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) provided information about the earthquake in X.

“EQ of M: 3.8, Date: 24/11/2025 17:39:51 IST, Latitude: 24.96 N, Longitude: 95.12 E, Depth: 139 km, Location: Myanmar,” the post read.

Meanwhile, a 3.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in Bhutan on Sunday afternoon, according to NCS.

Previously, on November 16, Myanmar was hit by a 3.5 magnitude earthquake. According to the NCS, the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, making it susceptible to aftershocks.

Myanmar is vulnerable to hazards from medium to large magnitude earthquakes and tsunamis along its long coastline. Myanmar is sandwiched between four tectonic plates (Indian, Eurasian, Sunda and Burmese plates) that interact with active geological processes.

Following the 7.7 and 6.4 magnitude earthquakes in central Myanmar on March 28, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned of rapidly increasing health threats for tens of thousands of people displaced in earthquake-affected areas: tuberculosis (TB), HIV, vector and waterborne diseases.

A 1,400-kilometer transform fault passes through Myanmar and connects the Andaman spreading center to a collision zone in the north called the Sagaing Fault.

The Sagaing Fault increases the seismic hazard for Sagaing, Mandalay, Bago and Yangon, which represent 46 percent of Myanmar’s population. Although Yangon is relatively far from the fault line, it is still exposed to significant risks due to its dense population. For example, the severe earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 that occurred in Bago in 1903 also hit Yangon.
