Earthquake Of Magnitude 4.2 Hits Nepal, Aftershocks Likely | World News

According to the National Seismology Center (NCS), a 4.2 -magnitude earthquake hit Nepal on Sunday. In addition, the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, which made it sensitive to aftershocks.
Shallow earthquakes are often more dangerous than deeper, because their energies are released closer to the surface of the Earth. This results in a higher potential for more powerful floor jolts and damage to structures and even increased losses. In the meantime, deeper earthquakes lose more energy before reaching the surface and often cause less intense tremor.

Nepal prone to earthquakes
Nepal tends to earthquake due to its position at a convergent border where Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide. This collision produces tremendous pressure and stress released as an earthquake.
The country is also located in a stingy area where the Indian plate shifts under the Eurasian plate and increases stress and difficulty further. It is located in the Himalaya region, a dense seismic activity zone caused by an ongoing collision of Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. According to the moment, this collision causes the Indian plate to be pushed under the Eurasian plate in a process called Subdükction and a tremendous pressure and difficulty in the world crust.
Nepal’s 2015 earthquake
Nepal also faced several senior earthquakes, including 2015 Quake. On April 26, 2025, a silence for one minute was observed for 8,969 victims killed in 2015 due to the destructive earthquake of the 7.8 Richter scale.
Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma, who was under the copy of the Dharahara Tower that fell during the earthquake ten years ago, remembered those killed in a disaster.
Recent earthquakes
NCS said in a statement that a third earthquake in 24 hours shook Pakistan on Sunday. On a Richter scale, an earthquake of 3.8 magnitude occurred at a shallow depth of 15 km, which made it sensitive to aftershocks. However, there was no immediate report of damage or losses. The country is one of the most seismic active countries in the world and goes through several main mistakes. As a result, earthquakes in Pakistan usually occur and are destructive.
Before that, according to NCS, an earthquake of 6.0 hit the Philippines in the early hours of Saturday.
