Earthquake rocks Turkey: 6.1-magnitude quake ‘flattens buildings’ as rescuers rush to scour rubble
Since the buildings were reported to collapse, an earthquake of 6.1 magnitude hit Türkiye.

In 2023, a 7.8 earthquake killed more than 53,000 people in Türkiye and destroyed or damaged hundreds of thousands of buildings in 11 southern and southeastern provinces.
6,000 people were killed in the northern regions of neighboring Syria.
The Ministry of Disaster said: ‘August 2025 in 19:15 in the state of the state of Balkesir in the region of 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred.
The earthquake was felt in Manisa, Izmir, Uşak and Bursa. To date, a total of seven aftershocks exceeding the size of 3.0 have occurred.
‘Field research is currently going on. Canakkale, Izmir, Afyonkarahisar, Usak, Bursa, Sakarya, Kutahya, Bilekik, Manisa and Kocaeli AFAD Provincial Directorate, to support the search and rescue efforts to support staff and vehicles sent.
‘Turkish Disaster Response Plan (TAMP) has been activated and representatives of all disaster groups will be gathered at AFAD Disaster and Emergency Management Center.’
