East Midlands Airport issues travel warning | UK | News

An international airport in the UK has issued a warning to passengers as a snow and ice yellow weather warning comes into force in the region tonight. East Midlands Airport (EMA) has urged passengers to plan ahead as snowy conditions are expected to cause travel disruptions in the region.

Statement from EMA NottinghamLiveread: “Cold weather is expected this evening and overnight. Our teams are ready to minimize any disruption this may cause. If you are traveling to the airport in the next few days, please be careful and prepare in advance.”

This comes after the Met Office issued several weather warnings that will come into force at various times over the next few days.

Nine counties in the East Midlands region, including Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, will be affected by a yellow snow and ice alert that will last for several hours.

The warning, issued early on Sunday, January 4, will come into force as of 20:00 and will remain in effect until 11:00 tomorrow.

The warning warns people that ice and snow could cause travel disruptions overnight and into Monday morning.

It says: “A band of showers will move south on Sunday evening and into the early hours of Monday morning, covering 1-3cm of snow in places and causing icing on untreated surfaces. Further snowfall is likely across the east of England on Monday morning.”

The East of England, London, South East England and the South West of England are also affected by the same warning.

A different yellow snow and ice warning has been in place for the North East and South West regions of England and the East and West Midlands and Wales since 12pm today.

Meanwhile, areas across four counties in Scotland are under a rare yellow snow warning, which will run from 6pm today until 10am on Monday, January 5.
