Former India captain Sourav Ganguly embarks on new chapter, becomes head coach of….

Ganguly, considered one of the largest Indian captains, played 113 tests and 311 ODI for India and scored more than 18,000 runs in both formats. He also directed India to the 2003 World Cup final.

Former Indian captain and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is preparing for a new position. He was chosen as the head coach of Pretoria Capitals for the upcoming SA20 season. This news was confirmed by Pretoria Capitals’ official Instagram account. “The Prince is preparing to bring a royal ability to the Capitals camp! We are pleased to announce Sourav Ganguly as a new head coach. Centurion is waiting.”


This points to the first event that Ganguly was appointed as head coach at the franchise jack. From 2018 to 2019, he worked as Delhi Capitals Team Director. After the election of the President of the BCCI, he resigned from this role.

Last year, Ganguly was appointed as JSW director and brought him closer to the coaching position in one of his franchises, including Delhi capitals. The SA20 auction, which is now planned on September 9, 2025, will lead the franchise.

This change comes after the former British dough Jonathan Trott leaves the head coach position after just one season. Trott was appointed before the 2025 SA20 season; However, the team fought, finished with only two wins in 10 group matches and could not reach the knockout.

Currently, Jonathan Trott is expected to lead the team in 2026, the T20 World Cup, the head coach of Afghanistan and in India and Sri Lanka.

The 2026 edition of the SA20 was re -planned to avoid a timing conflict with the World Cup. The last season of the South Africa T20 Tournament will take place between 26 December – 25 January.
