Caitlin Clark drops 21 points and 10 assists after WNBA used Raven Johnson in Fever promo graphics

The WNBA’s marketing department may want to log off for a while.

Just days after selecting Fever rookie Raven Johnson over generational superstar Caitlin Clark to dominate promotional graphics for Sunday’s matchup against the Seattle Storm, Indiana stepped out and let the box score dictate the discourse.

CAITLIN CLARK MAKES WNBA HISTORY AFTER CORRECTING THE LEAGUE STATISTICAL SHEET AHEAD OF THE FEVER-STORM MATCH

Indiana earned a commanding 89-78 victory over Seattle, but the real story emerged in the stark contrast between the league’s forced promotional face and the team’s true focus; it was a marketing accident made even funnier by the sudden absence of the team’s other main star, Aliyah Boston.

The spotlight on Caitlin Clark intensified after Boston was ruled out just before tipoff due to a lower leg injury.

Clark, who was surprisingly excluded from the league’s official pregame marketing materials despite a historic, stat-adjusted 30-point performance against the Mystics, proved exactly why she is the most coveted player in women’s basketball.

Clark, shouldering an even heavier burden without Boston in the paint, set the Storm defense on fire and broke the team record with 21 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds.

OutKick founder Clay Travis voiced the league’s ridiculous disdain: “Wasn’t Michael Jordan ever the lead graphic at a Bulls game while he was a member of the team? You might say it’s a small thing, but I guarantee you Bill Cartwright, Luc Longley, and Bill Wennington never got Jordan’s promotional graphic. Sell the stars! Marketing 101.”

On the other side was Johnson.

Having garnered attention as the Fever’s unlikely “poster child” in the WNBA’s promotional program, Johnson’s on-court production has sorely failed to match her flash marketing billings.

In 17 minutes of play on the bench, Johnson failed to pick up a single point, dropping a giant goose egg on the stat sheet.

While his defensive energy contributed to the team’s depth, the scoreless night highlighted the absurdity of the league’s decision to put a backup guard ahead of the most prolific scorer in basketball history, especially on a night when the team lost its star center.

Indiana comes away with a big win and the WNBA leaves with another glaring lesson about who really drives the bus.
