Eknath Shinde announces comprehensive development plan for Maharashtra’s Thane district

Maharashtra Deputy Prime Minister Eknath Shinde announced a comprehensive development plan to combat traffic congestion for the Thanium region, the modernization of health centers and flood relaxation.

During a Regional Planning Committee meeting on Friday, September 26, 2025, Mr. Shinde, who is also the Chief Minister of Than, said that he would appoint a specialist committee to examine the traffic jam in the Mumbai Metropolitan region of Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA).

“Drone and AI -centered traffic management systems, will be applied to control the blockage. MMRDA’nın expert panel, to provide permanent relief to passengers in coordination between all agencies short, medium and long -term measures will provide,” he said.

State Transportation Minister Pratap Sarnaik, MPs, MLAs and MLCS, Than, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli, Mira-Bhaderder, Bhiwandi and Ulhasnagar attended the meeting held at the Regional Collector Office.

Mr. Shinde examined the implementation of the annual plan of the region.

“In 2024-25, 99.98% of the funds were used for 1,167.37 crube allocation. For 2025-26, all agencies that guide all agencies to provide 100% use this year have been used as 23% of 1,252,99 CRORE allocation.

Deputy Prime Minister called for modernization of public services.

“All the first health centers will be upgraded to smart health centers, Zillad and municipal schools will be transformed into smart schools. Funds for these projects can be mobilized through CSS and the participation of the public.”

Some of the other initiatives for the region are the development of 39 touristic points and the launch of “Thana” Than “tourism application; to strengthen government offices; Chikhali plans to raise the height of the Dam, to provide a water source for Ulhasnagar through the Ulhas River mechanical lift and rehabilitation projects connected to the Kalu Dam.

Mr Shinde also directed the authorities to give priority to aid measures in areas affected by heavy rains, including repair of damaged roads, schools, Anganwadis and health centers.

Speaking about the widespread destruction caused by the floods in Mahashtra, Mr. Shinde said, “Helping farmers is the moral responsibility of the government. Some rules and conditions will be relieved even if it is necessary to help. Everyone is addressed to contribute to their own ways to help our brothers who are affected by the flood.”

The Deputy Prime Minister also opened Sewa Samvad, a rapid reimbursement mechanism conceptualized by the regional collector Shrikrishna Panchal to make public complaints more efficient.
