Elderly fan on a mobility scooter sends cyclists flying through the air after driving onto course mid-race
Cycling has caused some major accidents over the years. Everything from driving too close to the opponent to unexpected obstacles can send cyclists to the pavement and cause large pile-ups.
I don’t remember seeing an incident caused by an elderly fan on a mobility scooter. Not until now anyway. The fan appears to be trying to get a closer look at the action as cyclists pass by as the scooter’s nose hovers over the track.

It creates an obstacle that many drivers cannot avoid. There’s no time to escape as the band rushes past the audience at full speed. There’s no chance of hitting the brakes. This is inevitable, and if there were no eyewitnesses, you might think it was produced by artificial intelligence.

The crash audio is almost as crazy as the video itself. You hear someone yelling, followed by what sounds like a car crash. The impact sends at least one of the riders flying through the air over the handlebars.

Accordingly cycling journalist Eemelieveryone involved “escaped without major injury.” This is incredible, especially for orange-clad rider Paul Vriesman, who was seen doing a full front flip over the handlebars.

Eemeli said he was the last driver to leave the scene but was in stable condition.
“This elderly spectator caused a seriously dangerous incident today at the Saarland Trofeo Juniors by trying to get a better view and entering the field with his rotator as cyclists passed at full speed,” the journalist wrote. Instagram.

“Fortunately, the drivers involved escaped without serious injuries, despite some spectacular crashes. …but it goes without saying: please NEVER enter the RACETRACK when drivers are approaching. Even a small step onto the road at these speeds can have serious consequences. This wasn’t even the first such incident during racing. Junior racing is already dangerous enough without spectators making it even more dangerous.”
You need to park mobility scooters close to the action, this goes without saying. The only time you attempt any movement on any of these is when the riders are not close to approaching.
Taking out a few riders is a tough way to realize you’re not as skilled on a mobility scooter as you thought.
