Aamir Khan’s production banner, Aamir Khan Productions, shared a video on its social media account sharing the interesting behind-the-scenes story of actress Sakshi Tanwar and the cast of the hit movie Dangal.

Aamir Khan Productions recently shared a video on its official social media account revealing the story behind casting actress Sakshi Tanwar in the 2016 blockbuster Dangal. The conversation between Aamir Khan and Sakshi Tanwar highlighted how the television star was chosen for the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat’s wife Daya Kaur in the biographical sports drama.

In the video, Aamir Khan was seen recalling the casting process and stated that many other actresses were also tested for the role before Sakshi Tanwar’s name was suggested. When he saw the clip, he said, “One day, for some reason, Sakshi Tanwar came to my mind. When the scene was shot, I said, ‘What did you do? I didn’t expect it at all.'”

Aamir adds that his mother’s admiration for Sakshi’s television work influenced his decision. Referring to the film’s director Nitesh Tiwari, he said, “Actually, Sakshi was my idea. My mother loved her on television, so I asked Niteshji, ‘Shall we try Sakshi ji?’ “I said,” he explained. In the same video, Sakshi Tanwar recalled her surprise when she learned about the role.

“When I was told this was the character, I couldn’t believe it could be a match,” he said. She also talked about how Aamir personally approved her choice and told her, “Welcome, you will also participate.” Aamir praised Sakshi’s professionalism and acting ability and noted that she did not need more than one take most of the time. “He’s amazing. He’s a great player. You explain little little changes to him and he picks up right away and gives it perfectly. It’s not just skill, he does it with a lot of heart,” he said. Reflecting on their on-screen chemistry, Aamir added that it evolved naturally.

“It happened on its own. It’s like different pieces of a puzzle coming together,” he said. The video ends with Aamir expressing his gratitude for how the film came together: “One day the universe decided to be generous and I became a part of Dangal.” Released in 2016, Dangal became one of the highest-grossing Indian films worldwide and received critical acclaim for its performances and storytelling.
