Eluru pastor arrested under POCSO Act for sexual assault of minor

Tadikalapudi police arrested Chavatapalli Rambabu alias Hosanna on charges of raping a minor girl and impregnating her in Eluru district.

Police claimed that the suspect, who runs a masjid in the district, took the girl to his masjid a few months ago when she was home alone.

The girl’s mother filed a complaint with the police, alleging that the accused gave the girl a heavy dose of pills to terminate the pregnancy, resulting in her critical condition.

Eluru district Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore said a case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, 2012 and other relevant sections.

The team that arrested the accused was led by Jangareddygudem Additional Superintendent of Police Susmitha Ramanathan and Tadikalapudi Sub-Inspector S. Valli Padma, the SP said on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Ms. Susmitha said the accused would be produced in court.
