Boost to British expats living in 1 part of Spain after 20% tax cut | World | News

Costa del Sol Sol Estepona has successfully cleaned all its debts and cuts the real estate tax with great support to local residents, including about 5,000 British expatriates living there. Mayor José María García Urbano, led by the administration, significantly changed the town’s finance after receiving significant debts from its predecessors. Now, for 2025, they launched a tax deduction initiative, starting with a decrease in real estate tax (IBI).
This policy will save approximately 6.1 € (£ 5.2) million in approximately 38,000 households. With an average decrease of 20% household, ICI cuts will appear on the invoices distributed between August and September, but individual savings will change. Council figures indicate that the 37,988 tax invoice will receive this direct financial assistance.
Since 2011, Estepona has been one of the most appropriate taxes of Malaga province by lowering IBI by 50%.
The Council also applied a 3% discount on waste collection fees for residents who recycled at least three times at the municipality “Punto Limpio” facility.
Households, tools, furniture, oils, bulbs, x -rays or clothes can benefit from the scheme by throwing items.
In order to be qualified, the residents should apply with the provincial income agency in the first quarter of 2026, accompanied by payments and recycling documents.
The Council will also continue to tax aid for the vulnerable population, including retirees, long -term unemployment and social exclusion.
“This is closing one of the darkest parts of Estepona’s history,” Urbano said. “We are moving towards a perfect town with power and vision.”
