Eminent Scholar And Head Of Sree Narayana Gurukula Swami Muni Narayana Prasad Passes Away

Thiruvananthapuram: Eminent scholar and president of Narayana Gurukula, Varkala Swami Muni Narayana Prasad, passed away due to age-related ailments at a private hospital here on Saturday. He was 87 years old.

A highly respected scholar on the teachings and philosophy of Sree Narayana Guru, Swami came into contact with the Narayana Gurukula movement in 1955 and became its leader in 1999.

Muni Narayana Prasad was a prolific writer in Malayalam and English languages. He won the Kerala Sahitya Akedemi award in 2015 for his rendition of Nataraja Guru’s Shankaracharya’s “Soundaryalahiri” and again in 2018 for his autobiography “Atmayanam”.

He was awarded the Padma Shri title in 2024.

Muni Narayana Prasad was born on December 9, 1938, at Nagaroor in Thiruvananthapuram district.

He started his career as a civil engineer in the public works department.

However, he left this job due to his predisposition to spirituality and philosophical issues.

Nataraja Guru gave him Bramhacharya diksha in 1970 and Sanyasa diksha by Nitya Chaitanya Yati in 1985.

He has traveled all over the world and spoken on religious and spiritual topics at various international forums.

Muni Narayana Prasad attended a meeting of world religious leaders in Moscow in February 1987.

Prominent persons from all walks of life paid rich tributes to Muni Narayana Prasad.

Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar said Swami ji’s life was a depiction of Sree Narayana Guru’s teachings and recalled his invaluable contributions to society.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said Muni Narayana Prasad imbibed the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru and with his death, the state lost an eminent scholar and teacher.

Leader of Opposition VD Satheeshan, CPM general secretary MV Govindan and CPI general secretary Binoy Viswam expressed deep condolences over the death of Muni Narayana Prasad.
