Bondi Beach massacre: Minute by minute breakdown of the horror terror attack in Sydney

Australia was shaken by the horror of Sunday’s Bondi terror attack, which claimed the lives of 15 innocent people peacefully attending Hanukkah festival celebrations.
Here’s a 24-hour timeline of how it all unfolded:
17:00 AEST Sunday: Up to 1,000 members of Sydney’s Jewish community are gathering for Hanukkah by the Sea at Bondi Beach’s Archer Park to mark the first day of Hanukkah.
18.47: Gunmen Sajid Akram, 50, and his son Naveed Akram, 24, opened fire from the footbridge connecting Campbell Parade to Bondi Pavilion.
19:00: One of the gunmen approaches the beach and is then tackled to the ground by 43-year-old Ahmed al-Ahmad, who takes the rifle from him.
Ahmed is shot twice and undergoes surgery that night.
19.53: Sajid was shot dead by the police on the spot and Naveed was taken to hospital with serious injuries under police guard.
Two explosives were found in the car of the gunman in Campbell Parade.
21.30: Police raided Naveed’s home in Sydney’s western suburb of Bonnyrigg.
21.36: NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon declared the massacre a terrorist attack.
22.10: Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the attack as a “targeted attack” and a “diabolical act of antisemitism”.
22.15: NSW Police confirmed 12 people were killed and 29 injured.
Monday 3.16: NSW Police have provided an update and confirmed 16 people have died and 40 have been injured.
12:00: The police drop Sajid and Naveed’s relatives off at their home in Bonnyrigg.
Mr Albanese said he would put forward a proposal for stricter gun laws to the National Cabinet.
NSW Health has confirmed the number of patients receiving care in various hospitals has fallen to 27 since Monday morning, down from 40 patients, and has made updates.
14:00: NSW Premier Chris Minns says the state’s gun laws “need to change”.
Police announced that a third bomb was found at the scene.
16:00: Sydney Rabbi Yossie Friedman remembers the victims outside the Bondi Pavilion.
