Enzo Maresca signs three-year Man City deal after agreeing Chelsea compensation

Chelsea It is confirmed that Enzo Maresca said he will pay them compensation Manchester City‘s new coach.
Former Blues manager Maresca, 46, has signed a three-year contract at City, replacing Pep Guardiola, who resigned in May after a trophy-laden 10-year tenure.
The appointment has been postponed due to talks between Chelsea and City over a compensation package for the Italian player, which includes an undisclosed fee. Manchester City will pay Chelsea around £17 million, a source told BBC Sport.
This compensation package is separate from the one the Blues say they have agreed to sign Maresca and BBC Sport is yet to confirm the details.
The Italian left Chelsea in January following a run of seven Premier League games.
Chelsea’s statement at the time suggested that the decision was mutual and that both Maresca and the board agreed that “a change would give the team the best chance of getting the season back on track”.
However, Maresca confirmed he had handed in his resignation at Stamford Bridge and admitted it “opened a path” for him to join City.
In the statement, Chelsea described Maresca’s resignation as “a decision not to continue to fulfill his responsibilities” and said that they had reached a secret agreement with the Italian regarding the compensation to be paid to the club.
Maresca, who spent a season as Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City in the 2022-23 season, apologized to Chelsea for the way he left the club.
“The decision was mine alone,” Maresca wrote on Instagram.
“I am aware that leaving Chelsea mid-season has caused disruption at the club and I apologize for that. This was neither my intention nor my wish.”
