China will order 200 Boeing jets, Trump tells Fox News

President Donald Trump tells Fox News China has agreed to buy 200 Boeing’s That’s more than the 150 planes Boeing was expecting, according to a clip released Thursday.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump said, referring to Chinese President Xi Jinping, “There is something they agreed on today; he will order 200 jets. That’s a big thing. Boeing.” “Boeing wanted 150, got 200.”

While analysts expected a large Boeing aircraft order to come from Trump’s visit to China, Jefferies estimated that the order could reach 500 aircraft. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg and other top executives of US companies also joined Trump on the trip.

The manufacturer hasn’t had a major order from China in almost a decade, but the country buys from Airbus, Boeing’s main rival.

Trump did not specify which aircraft China might buy from Boeing, but analysts had expected a potential order that would include hundreds of Boeing’s best-selling 737 Max planes.

Boeing and the White House did not immediately comment. Boeing shares closed 4.73% lower on Thursday and were up 0.29% after hours.

The U.S.-China summit could be “a meaningful opportunity for us” that could include aircraft orders, Ortberg said last month on company earnings.

“I won’t give you the number of planes, but it’s a big number,” he said.
