Escalating unrest in Syria lays bare new regime’s momentous challenges | Syria

Seven months after the fall of Bashar al -Assad, Syria goes down to another wave of bloody sectarian violence.
A local disagreement between a Bedouin tribe and the Drze minority member led to conflicts that were shot in the Syrian government forces and trigger Israeli air strikes – then left a body trail.
The scenes reminded the coastal massacres of March, mostly, 1,500 of the Alawite civilians were revenge on Assad from the sect due to a failed attack by loyal warriors.
The murders stopped the enthusiasm of the new Syrian state, and a terrible reminder of the important difficulties he faced in unifying the country after about 14 years of ruthless civil war.
The Sunni Islamist group, the Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, who pioneered the attack that overthrew Assad, won the hearts of most of the Western world, and his success in international diplomacy was only rival with striking warfare victories. Donald Trump called him a “attractive, hard man ,, while the EU was quick to remove Sharaa’s international isolation of Syria.
However, at home, progress stops. Syria still deeply divided and controlled by the Kurdish forces, negotiations have stopped to integrate one third of the country. Negotiations are moving slowly to fully integrate Sweida’s Drze-Majority province, where existing violence emerges.
Sharaa promised to protect the country’s minorities and said that Syria has repeatedly had an ethnic and religious diversity that makes the country so special. In a speech on Thursday, he promised to hold everyone who is responsible to everyone who exploited against Drze, emphasizing that Syria’s laws “guarantee everyone’s rights”.
However, overcoming deep divisions carved into Syria for more than a decade will require more than a conversation.
This week, these episodes were cleared. The campaign, which attracted the Sunni government forces and allied Bedouin tribes, was accompanied by brutal hate speech against Drze fighters.
In the Telegram groups, men traded photos of Syrian Drze women and joked as a tribal forces sexual assault as tribal forces. Despite the protests of the executives, the Draze in Aleppo and Muslim students emerged hundreds of miles from the conflicts.
In Sweida, the Damascus government, which was built in recent months, evaporated as the local people appeared to find their loved ones dead, and many of them were brutally killed. A local man said he preferred to öyle dignity ”rather than joining the new Syrian state after his uncle was killed.
As soon as the Syrian government forces retreated on Thursday, Draze Militias launched revenge attacks against Bedouin families and once again directed the war between the two groups.
The new Syrian state has the ability to improve the social fabric of the country. The new army of the country, a militia patchwork, looks wild when deployed. In March, the coastal massacres and the severity of this week in Sweida filmed themselves when the forces of the state abused civilians.
In the face of violence, some of the Drze leadership in Sweida refused to leave their weapons and argued that the power would not bring them to the new Syrian state.
It is apparently the participation of Israel, which apparently shaped itself as the protector of Syria’s Drze without asking them. In the past, Israel relied on Russia to help protect a buffer region from the Syrian border, which is the threat of Iran -backed forces. Assad, called the “Satan we know” by Israel analysts, had very few problems with him.
Now Israel finds itself without a reliable partner in Syria. Syrian Drze’yi renewed military intervention and southern Syria as an excuse of existence. Since the fall of Assad, Israel has occupied wide areas of Syrian territory. This week, the Syrian Defense Ministry in Damascus and dozens of Syrian military targets in the South continued air strikes.
Many drouys were angry with Israel’s protection proposal, fearing that they will isolate them even more in a country where Israel despises.
In addition, how Israel’s military intervention will affect the ties between Tel Aviv and Damascus is warming in recent months. The Syrian President finally proposed to normalize relations with Israel – now something that seems to be too far.
In an interview with the New York Times in early July, the US ambassador Syria Barrack said that progressing on democratization and inclusion is not part of its criteria for the US relations with Damascus. In addition, he condemned the “nation construction” and attempts to interfere with the US countries in the Middle East.
“Everyone in this neighborhood only respects power and President Trump has established his power as the pioneer of peace in the match,” Barrack said.
However, experts emphasized that there is only one dialogue, not the power to bring peace to Syria.
On Friday, 57 Syrian Non -Governmental Organizations called on Syria’s new officials to obtain transition justice and to ensure that they can account for Sweida and other places for sectarian violence.
In the letter, the government said that the government has not published the results of an investigation to ensure the accountability of coastal massacres in March, which will still be held in early July.
In Sweida, the conflicts continued as the Bedouin tribes took action to invade the province of Draze and burned the houses on their way. Calls were ignored to end the war by dragging Syria to the violence cycle.
