A tragic car explosion occurred near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, resulting in the deaths of at least eight people and injuries to many others. This was the first major strike in 14 years.
Here is the list of major explosions that have occurred in Delhi since 1996:
1996 LAJPAT NAGAR EXPLOSION: 13 people killed and dozens injured in an explosion in a busy market
1997 SERIAL EXPLOSIONS ACROSS THE CITY: Explosions hit a bus in Sadar Bazaar, Karol Bagh, Rani Bagh, Chandni Chowk and Punjabi Bagh.
2000 RED FORT ATTACK: Terrorists opened fire inside the castle complex, killing two people
2001 PARLIAMENT ATTACK: Nine security personnel and staff were killed in a suicide attack on the parliament
2005 DIWALI-EVE EXPLOSIONS: 67 people killed and over 200 injured in Paharganj, Sarojini Nagar and Govindpuri.
2008 SERIES EXPLOSIONS: 20 killed in coordinated blasts in Connaught Place, Karol Bagh and Greater Kailash
2011 – DELHI HIGH COURT EXPLOSION: 15 people died and 79 people were injured in the bag bomb that occurred in front of the Supreme Court.
