Zelenskyy Holds Talks With NATO, EU Allies Ahead Of Trump Meeting, Calls For Strong Positions On Russia | World News

Upon his arrival in Canada, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a video conference with NATO and European Union leaders before the meetings with US President Donald Trump in Florida.

During the meeting, Zelenskyy emphasized that strong military and diplomatic positions were necessary “to prevent Russian President Vladimir Putin from manipulating and avoiding a real and just end to the war.”

Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to the leaders for their support. French President Emmanuel Macron, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, European Council President Antonio Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and British National Security Advisor Jonathan Powell attended the call.

Zelenskyy stopped by Canada and met with Prime Minister Mark Carney. He arrived in Halifax a day before his scheduled meeting with Trump. The visit comes amid one of the worst air strikes on Kiev in recent weeks, killing at least two people and disrupting electricity and heating supplies across much of the Ukrainian capital.

After meeting with Carney, Zelenskyy went to X again to thank Canada for its support.

“Thank you for the meeting, Mark! Today, I am in Canada with Prime Minister @MarkJCarney as agreed. We are talking together with our European friends. I am grateful for all the support given to Ukraine, especially the air defense support.”

During the meeting, Carney announced $1.82 billion in new economic aid to Ukraine, saying the funds would help unlock international financing and support the country’s long-term reconstruction.

Zelenskyy is scheduled to travel to Florida to meet Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Sunday, December 28, 2025. The talks are expected to focus on the proposed 20-point peace plan and potential US security guarantees, as Washington continues its efforts to end the nearly four-year war.
