Euphoria star Alexa Demie reveals she feared she’d lose her part as Maddy if she said no to nudity and ‘uncomfortable’ sex scenes
Alexa Demie has revealed she feared she would lose her role in Euphoria if she said no to nudity and ‘disturbing’ sex scenes.
The 35-year-old actress played Maddy Perez in all three seasons of Sam Levinson’s hit series, which first aired in 2019.
The latest series of the show faced criticism from some fans for a number of strange scenes. ‘unnecessary’ nudity and gory moments.
Now Alexa shared her thoughts on filming nude scenes.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor said: ‘I thought if I said no to doing these things [sex scenes]Then I wouldn’t have this role.
‘Not because anyone told me that, but because I was too young and didn’t know.’

Describing a particular moment during filming when she felt uncomfortable during the montage of Maddy cheating on Nate Jacobs (played by Jacob Elordi), she said: ‘After I did that, I realized, ‘Okay, I don’t like how this feels.’
Alexa later explained that she said something to the production team, that everyone really “empathized” and she never had to do that again.

There are concerns within the industry that the 28-year-old Euphoria star could become ‘typecast’ and sexualised characters could become the ‘entire brand proposition’.

‘The risk is that when public conversation focuses on the sexualized aspects of the role rather than the performance, the same work that makes it look bold can begin to shrink the brand.’

Last year, Sydney starred in the erotic psychological thriller The Housemaid, in which she appeared in suggestive scenes with co-star Brandon Sklenar.
Last month, creator Sam was slammed for the ‘unnecessary use’ of Nazi symbols in the series.
Fans hoping for a return to the complex, gritty content of the first two series also criticized scenes in which Sydney’s character appears topless and sucks her toes.
But the sixth episode of the third season proved that creator Sam is still trying to shock and scandalize viewers with more disturbing content.
In one disturbing scene, Faye Valentine’s (played by Chloe Cherry) white supremacist drug dealer Wayne (Toby Wallace) bears an Othala tattoo. [a Nazi symbol] He has a swastika tattooed on his arm and lower back.
Creator Sam was criticized by fans for the use of Nazi symbols in the series, which was claimed to have nothing to do with it. In a previous episode, Faye was also featured in a sensational sex scene with Wayne in front of a Nazi flag.

Sam told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘[Cassie] It has a doghouse, little dog ears and nose, and that has its own humor, but what creates the scene is that it’s the maid who pulls it off.
‘What we always want to find is that other layer of absurdity that we can attach to it so that we don’t get stuck in its fantasy or illusion – the joke, the jumping out, the breaking down the wall.’
Meanwhile, Sydney told Entertainment Tonight: ‘So Cassie is a crazy character. ‘This season she will do anything at all costs to become famous and makes some very crazy and interesting choices.’
Sam has previously defended the explicit nature of her work, stating at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival: ‘We live in a very sexualised world. ‘The impact of pornography on the psyche of young people is very powerful indeed.’
