‘Europe Not Heading In Right Direction’: Trump Fires Back At EU In Davos | World News

US President Donald Trump made a harsh criticism of Europe’s current course in his speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, saying that many parts of the continent are now unrecognizable and warning that Europe is “not moving in the right direction.”
“Frankly, some parts of Europe aren’t even recognized anymore,” Trump said.
Explaining that his words were not intended to humiliate anyone, Trump said, “We can discuss this, but there is no debate. I don’t want to humiliate anyone and say I don’t know anyone, and this is not in a positive way. This is in a very negative way.”

“I love Europe and I want to see Europe get better, but it’s not going in the right direction,” he said, emphasizing his long-standing love for the region.
Earlier on Wednesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called for greater European independence on economic and security matters, noting rapid global changes and reaffirmed Greenland’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of US President Donald Trump’s threat to annex the Arctic island.
In his opening speech at the European Parliament, the EU President acknowledged the uncertainties and fluctuations in many parts of the world and drew attention to the change in the global order.
“Since I was last here in this plenary, we have witnessed world-shaking events. From nationwide protests and crackdowns across Iran, to the seizure of shadow fleet tankers in the North Atlantic. From the unstable situation around the Arctic and Greenland, to the brutal bombing of Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure, from tensions in the Middle East to the Indo-Pacific, all these reflect a set of realities for Europe,” von der Leyen said. ANI reported.
She described the global order as “seismic and permanent”, driven by economic, military, technological, and geopolitical power, and stressed the need for Europe to adapt to this reality.
