European recognition of Palestinian state shows US still only power that counts

EPAThe recognition of a Palestinian province in the United Nations in the United Nations is a historical moment in the conflict of the centuries-old Israel-Palestinian.
At the same time, it is also a diplomatic gambling that shows how the great European forces believe that the conflict reaches the point where they require such an unprecedented move.
French President Emmanuel Macron faced the current disaster in Gaza and encountered condemnation for both Israel and Hamas.
The movement, which was coordinated with the UK and under the sponsorship of Saudi, is to keep the two -state solution to life support.
They believe that this long -standing international peace formula is the only way to a fair, shared future for two communities.
Alternative, UN Secretary -General António Guterres said to a UN conference in New York, a “one -state” solution, that is, the dominance of Israel and the “subjugation of Palestinians.
Nothing said that he could justify his collective punishments, hunger or any ethnic cleaning.
Israel is angry and threatens to answer.
The UN conference sees the UN conference as a reward for Hamas after the Palestinian state by the recognition of a Palestinian state by the UK, France, Canada, Australia and others.
Some Israeli ministers want the response to an announcement of the annexation of the occupied West Bank’s parts and to exclude a Palestinian state that can be applied forever.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policy, including the over -right figures, whose policy is to expel the Palestinians and to build Jewish settlements instead of them, intends to withdraw a two -state solution of the receipt.
President Donald Trump’s administration continues to support the Israeli ally, rejecting Europeans’ movement and punishing Mahmud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority (PA).
He prevented him from attending the conference in New York and spoke with a video connection.
The Palestinian Conference and the reaction of the Trump administration point to the deepest division of how to solve the Middle East conflict between Washington and its European allies.
However, Europeans believe that they leave very few options, given the situation on the ground.
Israel is now deploying a third army section to the city of Gaza, and dozens of Palestinians are being killed; Hamas continues about 50 hostages, many of which are dead; In the West Bank Israel’s settlement expansion and the comprehension of the severity of the settlement.
All of this is about two years after the October 7 attacks, with a few signs that more military pressure would force Hamas to surrender, which Israel was looking for.
Macron’s strategy is an attempt to show that diplomacy offers an appropriate alternative.
First of all, to put an applicable end to the war in Gaza, followed by two states – in the form of Israel and Palestinians.
European countries claim that Israel’s strategy has failed and that only more civilian suffering and endangering the remaining hostages.
Most importantly, the UN Conference was also ruled by Saudi Arabia and supported by the Arab Union.
The French show that the form of diplomacy can apply leverage through Hamas, because the key Arab countries in the conference are now inviting the group to disarm the group, to surrender their weapons to PA, and added that it would not be a future leadership role for Palestinians.
While Macron believes that the process creates an incentive for Israel, he also keeps the door open to normalization of relations with Saudi Arabia, a long target for Netanyahu and Trump.
EPAHowever, the decision to recognize a Palestinian state against Washington’s wishes means an important diplomatic gambling.
While watching Macron on the podium in front of the United Nations, as the UN Secretary General said, you saw a president who tried to take a global leadership role to find a way out of Gaza’s “nightmare”, and you found a common Israeli-Palestine.
However, this was the wrong president who spoke in terms of raw power.
Without pioneering the US effort, there is no significant pressure that Washington can withstand all over.
And the Trump administration continues to reject Europeans’ approach.
Trump goes to the UN, where he will speak on Tuesday and then meet Arab leaders completely separately from his work with Europeans.
While this lack of coordination between key countries contributes to the sense of dysfunction, as the previous mediator between Israel and Hamas, Israel refuses to re -participate after attacking Hamas leaders at the beginning of this month.
Both Macron and Starmer brought up the colonial heritage of their countries in the Middle East.
In 1948, after the History of British withdrew from Palestine, they remembered how the international community knew the state of Israel.
Now, they said that the Palestinians knew their equal right to their states.
Palestinians welcomed their recognition from their countries, but they also know that they are superpowers of the past.
Their decisions are not as once.
Palestinian state is only possible if today’s superpower is supported by the USA.
And President Trump has other ideas so far.
