Evangeline Lilly confirms brain damage from TBI after boulder accident

Evangeline Lilly shares an update on her health following her unfortunate accident in May 2025.
One Instagram video The 46-year-old “Lost” star shared in his post on Friday, January 2, that he suffered brain damage after falling and hitting his head on a rock last year.
“The decision has been made… I have brain damage from TBI,” he wrote in his caption. “It’s comforting to know that my cognitive decline isn’t just pre-menopausal, it’s disturbing to know what an uphill battle it will be to try to reverse the deficits. Thank you all for always asking, always caring, and continuing to pray 🌺.”
In the video, the actor shared that he was “entering this new year, the year of the horse, with bad news regarding his concussion” and thanked fans for asking him to share updates on his health.

“The results came back from the scans and almost every area of my brain was operating at a reduced capacity,” he said. “So I have brain damage from the TBI, and there are probably other factors as well.”
His job now is to focus on his recovery, he said, saying he and his doctors “need to get to the bottom of this” and “start working hard to fix this.”
“Not only is it comforting to know that my cognitive decline is pre-menopausal, it is also troubling to know what an uphill battle it will be to reverse the deficits.”
Despite having a long road ahead of her, Lilly managed to look on the bright side and admitted that she ended the year in a “more restful way” due to her injury.
“The cognitive decline I have experienced since smashing my face has helped me slow down and end 2025 with more peace,” he said. “I think this was the quietest, most relaxing Christmas holiday I’ve had since I had kids, which was 14 years ago. So that’s a good thing.”

Lilly then thanked her fans for their concern about her situation and concluded by expressing how “extraordinarily grateful and blessed” she felt to be able to play for another day and another year on this beautiful living planet.
Michelle Pfeiffer, who starred alongside Lilly in “Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania,” wished her former co-star well in the comments section, writing: “You are a warrior. Nothing, not even that, can defeat you, my friend. ❤️”
The actor first shared a photo of himself with a bloody face on Substack in May 2025 about his injury, writing: “I fainted at the beach. And I fell face down on a rock.” He later shared more photos on Instagram showing his bloody nose, wounds on his chin and swollen lip.
In her post, she explained that doctors were initially more interested in why she was fainting and fainting than treating her injuries, but she had been experiencing “blackouts” and “fainting spells” since childhood. He explains that although he had multiple blackouts, doctors could never tell him why.

“My partner says I look like I died when I blacked out,” he wrote on Substack. “He’s so scared. My eyes roll in my head and all life leaves my body. He constantly checks my nose and mouth to make sure I’m not breathing. This time was no exception. He wasn’t with me at the beach, but I fainted again on the way to the hospital.”
