EAM Jaishankar meets U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, ahead of the inaugural ministerial meeting on critical minerals.

Mr. Rubio welcomed Mr. Jaishankar to the State Department on Tuesday afternoon, February 3, 2026.

Mr. Jaishankar will visit the United States from February 2 to 4 and will attend the Critical Minerals Ministerial Meeting convened by Mr. Rubio on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

During the visit, Mr. Jaishankar will also hold talks with senior members of the US administration, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

The meeting between Mr. Jaishankar and Mr. Rubio took place a day after Trump announced on Truth Social that India and the United States had agreed to a trade deal under which Washington would reduce reciprocal tariffs on Delhi from 25% to 18%.
