But now this difficult period is behind us.
“Let it come 2026…I’m back! I’m so happy to be home, to be able to put my feet in the sand at the beach and start thanking me and my family for reaching out and their unwavering support,” Martyn wrote on account X in an emotional note accompanied by a photo of himself standing on the beach. he wrote.
Martyn said this painful event taught him the temporary nature of life.
“This experience reminded me how fragile life is, how quickly things can change, and how precious time is!”
The 54-year-old former World Cup champion also recalled his struggle with the disease.
“On December 27, 2025, my life was taken from me… when meningitis took over my brain and, unbeknownst to me, I was placed in a paralyzing coma for 8 days to help me fight this terrible disease. And I did! That’s what war is!… After being given a 50/50 chance of survival, I emerged from the induced coma 8 days later… unable to walk or talk.”
“But 4 days after that, to the doctors’ disbelief, I walked, talked and proved to them why I needed to be released from the hospital to begin my recovery,” he said.
Martyn, who played 67 Tests, 208 ODIs and 4 T20Is for Australia, thanked everyone who stood by him during the turbulent days.
“This post is a HUGE thank you to ALL my family, friends and the many others who have reached out to me! There are so many amazing people in this world… from paramedics (at Mermaid Waters Ambulance), doctors and nurses (at Gold Coast University Hospital) … to family, friends and people I don’t even know.”
“I feel like I’ve met all these wonderful people in the last 3 weeks or they’ve reached out to me with messages of love and support,” she wrote.
