Cooper Duff-Tytler said: “I played a lot of basketball when I was 14, 15 and 16 and I was lucky enough to play for Australia and it was a tough choice between football but I can’t complain now.
Duff-Tytler said he models his game after the new saint, Tom De Koning.
5. Dylan Patterson, Gold Coast
What Patterson said: “I’m very happy with the decision I made. [to not choose rugby].” Similar to Andrew McLeod, Patterson rejected offers from NRL clubs to stay on the AFL route.
6. Daniel Annable, Brisbane Lions
What Annable said: “Jaspa Fletcher checks in frequently, [he’s] clearly the weapon of competition and [I’m] I look forward to working with him.”
7.Sam Cumming, Richmond
What Cumming said: “My mother thinks I got all the talent from her. [and] “Dad was good too,” he joked. Cumming said he loved playing in South Australia’s under-18 championships and was looking forward to playing in Richmond.
8.Sam Grlj, Richmond
What Grlj said: “I think this is very important for my family… I brought 15 people [along]. I probably wouldn’t have been drafted 12 months ago. [and] “I’m really proud of myself to be here now.” Grlj became emotional during his interview with Fox Footy and later laughed when asked about his surname. “The kids at Oakley love calling me to ‘The Sizzle,’” he said with a laugh.
9. Sullivan Robey, Essendon
What Robey said: “Obviously it’s pretty remarkable; I never imagined at the beginning of the year that I would be here on draft night with my family and friends. It’s been an amazing journey, I’m so proud.” Robey had joked that he was a bit of a “late bloomer” when he made a late appearance at Ranges in mid-season.
10. Jacob Farrow, Essendon
Farrow said: Farrow described himself as a “foothead” and added: “When I’m not playing on the weekend, I put my feet up on the sofa and watch the game being played.”
Farrow thanked her parents for all their support and said she couldn’t be more grateful.
11.Xavier Taylor, Melbourne
What Taylor said: “This is my journey, but it’s also theirs. [family] and I’m so glad I can share this with all of them. Taylor said he already has a Demons tattoo and hopes to add one.
12. Latrelle Pickett, Melbourne
Pickett said: “I called late and I didn’t actually have to say anything to the family and they actually had to sneak in tonight, but it all worked out.” Pickett’s cousin, Kysaiah Pickett, was also selected with the 12th overall pick. Latrelle said his cousin is one of his heroes and he gets closer to him every day.
13. Dyson Sharp, Essendon
What Sharp said: “This is a dream come true – little six-year-old me would be overjoyed right now,” said the lifelong Dons fan, as he presented his idol and namesake Dyson Heppell’s red-black guernsey. “I’m really speechless,” he said.
14. Harry Kyle, Sydney
What the Swans said about Kyle: “An incredible story after joining our QBE Swans Academy program last year. Welcome Harry!”
15.Oskar Taylor, GWS
What Taylor said: “It’s an incredible feeling; it’s so special to have everyone here, my friends and family.”
Taylor told Fox Footy she had “no idea” she was going to GWS and joked about her mum buying a few different scarves just in case.
16. Lachy Dovaston, North Melbourne
What Dovaston said: “I have some [goal celebrations] I saved for next year; “I watched some NBA, I will try to copy them.”
Dovaston actually said he was happy to be compared to Nick Watson, also known as “The Wizard.”
“If I could be something like her [Watson]that would be great,” Dovaston said.
