Every school MUST have a portrait of the King and the Union Flag flying, Reform announces – under its ‘patriotic curriculum’ for St George’s Day

Reform UK has promised that if they win the next election, every school will have a portrait of the King, a Union Jack and a ‘patriotic’ curriculum teaching them about the empire.

Announcing the plans ahead of St George’s Day, Nigel Farage’s party said every school in England would be required to honor the patron saint’s day if it came to power.

The party said it wanted to ‘end the ideological takeover of our classrooms’ by introducing a new history curriculum to ‘proudly honor our island story’.

Reform’s education spokeswoman Suella Braverman accused previous governments of ‘promoting mass immigration agendas’ in schools.

The party said children were being taught to be ‘ashamed’ of Britain’s past, not the men and women who fought for freedom.

It noted a poll by Policy Exchange which found that only 20 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds had a positive view of Winston Churchill.

The survey, which outlined the change, also showed that only 41 per cent of 18 to 27-year-old Gen Zers said they were proud of the British.

Reformation said children should be taught the ‘true story’ of Britain, with history taught from a ‘progressive perspective’.

The reform, which makes former Tory minister Suella Braverman the new education spokeswoman, could allow them to be set up through the free school system

British history will make up at least 60 per cent of the curriculum under plans to overhaul classes.

They said it should reflect a ‘patriotic’ history of the British Isles ‘rather than one retooled to justify mass immigration’.

Events such as Magna Carta, the Wars of the Roses, the English Civil War, the Glorious Revolution, the Acts of Union, the Enlightenment and Victorian Britain would be prominent.

Under these plans, all schools will be required to display the King’s portrait in a common area where all students can see it.

The party said a free portrait of the King was offered to every state-funded school in the country in 2024, but only 34 per cent took up the offer.

Each school will be required to fly the Union Jack according to its own plans, with the party funding only flagpoles on which that flag can be flown.

Their plans would apply to devolved nations, with Scotland and Wales flying their own flags and celebrating national days.

Ms Braverman said: ‘The Tory and Labor governments have failed a generation of young people with a substandard curriculum that undermines academic rigor and national identity in order to promote mass immigration agendas.

‘Reform will put an end to this. ‘As Education Secretary, I will deliver a new curriculum that will reignite national pride and ensure every child leaves school understanding how privileged it is to be British.’

This comes as a bombshell poll shows the Greens and Reform Party are expected to do well in London’s local elections, taking seats from Labor.

YouGov MRP predicted Reform would be the best-supported party in Labour-run Barking and Dagenham, Conservative-run Bromley and Havering, which are not currently in overall control.

Mr Farage said in December his party had a ‘very real chance’ of winning in ‘half a dozen’ London boroughs.
