The couple’s visit marks the first visit by a royal to the country since 2011, when King Charles and Queen Camilla served as the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall. X-going fans noticed something important from Edward and Sophie’s outing today: how happy the couple looked.

One royal fan wrote: “As you can imagine, I love how happy they look and their gorgeous photos and videos.”

Another added: “I love how happy they look.” Another fan commented, “Me too [red-heart emoji]”

A fourth also wrote: “Beautiful couple always laughing.” followed by several heart emojis.

Praising the couple, who are known as two of the most popular members of the company, another fan added: “They are a great couple. She always looks so beautiful. She always looks so elegant.”

The couple’s visit will allow them to do work in both Lisbon and Porto, but also take time to focus on issues that are important to them, such as youth opportunities and women, peace and security.

Edward and Sophie’s jam-packed itinerary focuses on celebrating shared history and fostering new partnerships.

The couple last visited Portugal together in May 2005 as the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

The Duke of Edinburgh also visited alone in June 2009.
