Researchers from the University of Leicester in the UK discovered that eating a high fruit can reduce the effects of air pollution on lung function.

The findings were presented at the European Respiratory Association Congress in Amsterdam this month.

According to a press release, more than 90% of the global population is exposed to air pollution levels shared by Pimpika Kaawsri, which exceeds “guides”.

“Extensive research shows that exposure to higher air pollution levels is associated with a decrease in lung function.” He said.

Additional research has connected a healthy diet with fruits and vegetables to a better lung function.

“We wanted to investigate whether a healthy diet or a certain food groups can change the known side effects on lung function,” Kaewsri said. He said.

The study analyzed Biobank data from approximately 200,000 participants and compared dietary patterns, including fruit, vegetables and whole wheat grains, with lung function.

Researchers also took into account the exposure to air pollution in the form of fine particle substances from sources, including vehicle exhaust and industrial processes. Age, height and socioeconomic situation were also taken into consideration.

In the low fruit intake group, as the exposure to air pollution increased, the lung function had a decrease in 78.1-Mililetra.

For women in the high fruit intake group, lung function was reduced only 57.5 millililillets.

Although Kaewsri depends on a better lung function in both men and women, regardless of a healthy diet, air pollution, it is seen that women who consume four servings of fruit or consume more per day have a smaller decrease than those who consume less fruit.

According to the study, men generally consumed less fruit, which can explain why the “potential protective effect” is observed only in women.

According to Kaewsri, this effect can be caused by “naturally existing” antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds in the fruit.

“These compounds can help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation caused by fine particles, and balance some of the harmful effects of air pollution on lung function.” He said.

Researchers plan to expand their work to investigate how the diet can affect changes in lung function over time.

Professor Sara de Matteis, President of the Vocational and Environmental Health Specialist Group of the European Respiratory Association at Turin University of Italy, said that this study “, a healthy diet, especially in the intake of fresh fruit, confirms the benefits of potential respiratory health”.

“However, access to a healthy diet is not distributed evenly in the population, and even if the authors are adjusted to the socio-economic situation, some mixer cannot be ignored.”
