Ex-IRS officer booked in wealth case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a disproportionate assets case against former Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer N. Rengaraj, who retired as Chief Commissioner of Income Tax.
The allegation is that Rengaraj accumulated more assets from known sources of income when he was Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Coimbatore in 2020-24.
The FIR stated that during this period, Mr. Rengaraj built a farmhouse and purchased land worth ₹16 crore for his real estate business.
The total value of assets held in his name or those of his family members was estimated at Rs 23 billion, disproportionate to his known sources of income.
