Ex-Labour councillor Oliver Steadman charged with blackmail in Westminster ‘honeytrap’ probe
After an investigation into the Westminster Honeytrap scandal, a former working council member was accused.
28 -year -old Oliver Steadman was accused of once blackmail and five -point misuse of a public telephone network.
He will go to court on November 3.
Last June, he was arrested as a part of a deputies and employees working in Westminster, called “brother” or “charlie ve and an investigation of his employees.
Messages will include the details of the careers of MPs and employees and the campaigns they are working on to relate to the victims. They would later go down to sexually explicitly, “brother” or “Charlie” sent graphic images to the victims and asked for naked photographs in return.
It is understood that two targeted people respond to themselves by sending an open image, defined as a spear identity hunting initiative, a process in which they send personal and deceptive messages to deceive recipients.
The accusations against Mr. Steadman by the Crown Prosecutor’s Office (CPS), one of the blackmail and an electronic communication network against one person.
He was accused of other inappropriate use of an electronic communication network against the other four people.
Malcolm Mchafie, Head of the Special Crime Department of the Crown Prosecutor’s Office (CPS), said, “We decided to prosecute Oliver Steadman about blackmail and five communication offense and a total of five victims working in politics and Westminster.
“This follows an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service that looks at the messages containing unwanted images sent to several people in Parliamentary political circles using WhatsApp between October 2023 and April 2024.”
Last year, a high -profile deputy William Wragg was suspended by the conservatives on his role in the scandal.
When he started to speak in an appointment application, he admitted that he gave colleagues to the scammer after sharing his open images.
Mr. Wragg said Times “He was scared” because the man had knowledge about him.
In April, MET launched an investigation after “unwanted messages” was sent to a series of deputies, employees and political journalists working in Westminster.

Among the other senior figures targeted by HoneyTrapper, Dr. Luke Evans, who said that he received unwanted open images and messages on WhatsApp, was the Conservative Deputy Dr Luke Evans. It is believed that at least 12 men receive unwanted messages in political circles.
