Ex-NRL flyer ‘relieved’ after cops drop drug, cash case

A FETED former NRL accelerator was cleaned from having drugs and stolen cash after the police had withdrawn charges against him at the last minute.

32 -year -old James Roberts, who played more than 160 NRL matches for five clubs during his career, was not found guilty of having a banned drug and stolen goods.

Police claimed that when the morning of July 30, 2024, it was 0.3 grams of cannabis and $ 1400 stolen cash.

However, the charges against the center of the 2015 Dally M was withdrawn by the police at a court hearing on Monday morning.

Apart from the court, his lawyer Najee Makhoul said there was no evidence to associate the former NRL player with crimes.

The police assumed that Roberts’ cash money was illegally taken, but it was not like that at all.

His lawyer said that the retired footballer received cash payment for NRL trips and appearances and could attract funds from his lawyer.

“This was the case here, and there was a false accusation for wrong reasons, and unfortunately the result was consequences.” He said.

A small amount of marijuana could not be linked to Roberts because it was found in the passenger bag.

Makhoul said that Roberts, who did not appear in court on Monday, was looking forward to putting the ordeal behind him.

“This is a very lucky result,” he said.
