Why are road deaths rising again after falling for years?

Christmas is here and with it comes a very dangerous time of year on Australian roads. Historically this was very true. It still is – there have been more traffic accidents in December than any other month in the last 30 years.

But the nature of road tolling in Australia has changed a lot since we obsessed over it 20 years ago, including the terminology; we now call it “roadkills”. Tolls are an inevitable cost of using the roads, yet we need to be more assertive in tackling road deaths.
