Tibetan will soon enter a world of unknown Buddhism – without the current Dalai Lama. He has been the leader since he was chosen as a child who began to walk more than 80 years ago. But Dalai Lama is now 90 years old and clearly talking about the process of choosing his successor.
However, in 1937, in a village in the Northwest Tibet, a lot changed since it was discovered by senior Buddhist monks. Most importantly, in the 1950s, China’s Tibetan invasion and the region’s Buddhist leadership in decades later in decades in India.
As our South Asian correspondent, Hannah Ellis-Petersen– Explains, the process of the next Lama’s identity – and how to find them – has become a deeply controversial question that pit the Chinese state against the Buddhist priests. And after the death of the current Dalai Lama, the world raises two possibilities of vision, not a Dalai Lama.
