Noida workers protest: Samvardhana Motherson says unrest has no material impact on operations

Samvardhana Motherson International Limited on Monday said that despite reports in some sections of the media, the recent labor protests in Noida and other cities have not had any material impact on its operations.

In an exchange filing, the company said the unrest was part of a broader workforce issue affecting multiple sectors in Noida, Uttar Pradesh and some other cities, driven by “misinformation” about wage revisions.

“Our operations comply with all applicable laws with no material impact on the Company. The safety of our employees remains our top priority,” the company said.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Police, demonstrations were held at multiple places in Noida, allegedly instigated by elements from outside the state, but violence was witnessed at only one place and these demonstrations were brought under control using minimal force.

A large number of workers from various industrial units gathered in some parts of Noida demanding wage hike. Protests turned violent in some areas, leading to arson, vandalism and traffic disruption.
