Explosions rock Utrecht, with buildings damaged and multiple people feared to be injured

While the explosions in the Netherlands caused great damage to buildings, it is feared that many people will be injured.
At least one person was injured after the explosion at Visscherssteeg in Utrecht city center at around 15.30. The victim’s condition remains unclear.
According to local reports, a major fire has since broken out, requiring immediate attention from local fire and ambulance services.
The surrounding buildings are destroyed, windows are broken and there is debris strewn on the streets.
“I live on the other side of the centre, and even here the windows were shaking from the explosion,” one resident wrote to X.
Images taken from the scene show large clouds of smoke rising over the area.
Two trauma helicopters landed in nearby Lepelenburg Park, while a police helicopter continues to circle the area.
A police officer told a reporter at the scene that police were expecting more explosions.
“Nothing can be said yet about the cause of the explosions,” a police spokesman said.
This is breaking news. More to follow.
