Trump administration freezes $584m in grants for ‘life-saving research’ at UCLA | Trump administration

The Trump administration suspended 584 million dollars of federal grants for the University of Los Angeles, Los Angeles University, almost twice the previously considered amount.
UCLA is the first state university aimed at the allegations of violations of civil rights related to anti -Semitism and positive action. The Trump administration froze or paused federal financing on similar allegations against private colleges.
“If these funds are suspended, the UCLA and the country will be devastating for Americans around the country, Jul said Julio Frenk, the chancellor of the school. He said that the movement means that “life -saving research” will deteriorate.
“A loss for the Americans who are committed to the groundbreaking work we do, health and future work.”
The affected departments are based on financing from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and the Ministry of Energy.
The US Department of Education did not respond immediately to an e -mail requesting a comment from Associated Press.
The Trump administration recently accused UCLA for violating the equal protection of the Civil Rights Law by acting with a deliberate indifference in creating a hostile educational environment for Jewish and Israeli students of the Civil Rights Law of 1964.
The announcement came with UCLA’s agreement with a Jewish professor who sued three Jewish students and a Jewish professor who sued the university, and in 2024, pro -Palestinian protesters violated their civil rights by allowing pro -Palestinian protesters to prevent their access to campus classes and other fields.
The university said that it depends on campus safety and inclusiveness and will continue to apply proposals.
New UC President James B Milliken, Wednesday, said the university system agreed to meet with the management about the allegations of UCLA, he said.
“These segments do not do anything to appeal to anti -Semitism, Mil said Milliken. “Moreover, the extensive work of UCLA and the University of California to combat all anti -Semitism has been ignored.”
Milliken said, “The deductions would be a death structural for innovative work that saved life, enlarged our economy and strengthens our national security. The restoration of financing is for the benefit of our country,” he said.
As part of the case agreement, UCLA said that it would add 2.3 million dollars to eight organizations struggling with anti -Semitism and supporting the Jewish community of the university. It also created a campus and community security office that creates new policies to manage the protests on campus. Jewish father and grandmother Nazi Germany, Nazi Germany, fleeing from Mexico and the daughter of his wife Holocaost victim, Frankish, anti -Semitism and anti -Israeli prejudice began an initiative to combat.
Last week, Columbia agreed to pay 200 million dollars as part of an agreement to solve investigations of the government’s allegations that the school violated the laws of the fight against federal discrimination. The agreement also relieves more than $ 400 million research grants.
The Trump administration plans to use his agreement with Columbia as a template for other universities and are currently seen as a expectation.
