Under BJP rule, Odisha reports 37,611 crimes against women in just 14 months

Odisha was informed on Monday, September 22, 2025, as the Bharatia Janata Party (BJP) undertook power in the state.

Prime Minister Mohan Majhi, who responded to a query of Sofia Firdous, also holds the home portfolio in Sofia Firdous, said that a total of 37,611 crime cases against women, including rape, molestation, sexual harassment and dissolution of public opinion, were recorded in the state.

Molestation filled the list with 9,181 cases, then the kidnapping of women (8.227), arrogant torture (6.134) and dowry torture (5.464). In the same period, 2,933 rapes and 1,278 sexual harassment cases were reported with 2,161 public abandonment.
Of these cases, 799, 426, resulted in prisoners associated with rape.
The Assembly was also informed that Odisha has exceeded 30,000 points against women three times in the last five years. The worst of 2021 was recorded in 35,326 cases, while the figures remained more than 30,000 consistently in 2023 and 2024.
Mr. Majhi answered that important and sensitive cases for women, including rape, sexual assault, sexual assault and acid attack on non -disregarding, were monitored and supervised by the police and additional SPs. Similarly, due to the increase in self -immolation cases of women and girls, all regional inspectors of the police were instructed to act quickly about complaints from women and girls.
