Fadnavis Says Mamata ‘Under Pressure’, Slams Rahul Gandhi

Mumbai: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday ignored West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s “biggest spy” attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it a sign of “fear of losing” the upcoming elections. Mr. Fadnavis also targeted the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of trying to malign the country and create public panic.

Mr. Fadnavis said, “Mamata didi is under pressure. She can see that she will lose the elections. People are losing their minds in the face of defeat. If someone talks like this after this has happened, it should not be given much importance. People know who has infiltrated, who is the savior of the country.”

Ms Banerjee, who is also the Trinamool Congress chief, had on Saturday accused PM Modi of allegedly using SIR to alienate legitimate voters and terming them ‘infiltrators’. He went on to call him ‘the greatest spy’.

“Modiji will not give up our rights. He goes to Saudi Arabia and shakes hands there, it is his choice. I respect all countries, but I am proud of my own country. Let this message of peace and brotherhood spread around the world. However, when you shake hands abroad, you seem to forget everything, but when you return to India, the Hindu-Muslim narrative begins again. Then you call for deleting names and labeling people as spies. I say you are the biggest spy,” he said.

Mr. Fadnavis also targeted Rahul Gandhi and accused him of trying to malign the country and incite public panic.

Maharashtra CM said, “There is a war going on in the world. Despite such a war, the Government of India has made all preparations so that the lives of common people are not affected. Look at the situation in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, they have closed offices and switched to ‘Work from Home’, closed schools and colleges, there is shortage of oil and gas. Everything is running out there. But there is no impact in daily life in India. So I think Rahul Gandhi is trying to denigrate his own country and due to such attempts the people have moved away from him.”

Mr Gandhi on Saturday criticized the Center for the falling value of the Indian rupee and rising industrial fuel prices amid rising conflicts in West Asia.
