France Urges Tariff Barriers to Stop China From Killing Industry

French Finance Minister Eric Lombard said Europe should support tariff barriers against Chinese imports that face the risk of damaging the industrial economy of the continent.
Lombard said that Europe has already taken action on steel and cars, but the rules should be changed to allow wider measures against imports from China.
“We must protect our sector in today’s world,” said France at a Economic Conference in AIX-EN-PROVENCE. “We should do this in all industrial segments, otherwise the Chinese policy of having a production capacity with more than 50% global market share in each sector will kill our sector.”
His comments underlines the efforts of US President Donald Trump in Paris to rediscover global trade, and attempts to redraw the risk of hitting Europe due to potential tariffs in exporting to the United States.
China, on Friday, announced its anti-dumping tasks on Europe Brendi, exempt large cognac manufacturers who accept minimum price levels. The action followed the EU’s decision to fulfill 45% tasks in Chinese electric vehicles in 2024.
Bloomberg reported on Friday, another tension between Europe and Beijing, the Chinese government plans to shorten a two -day summit with the leaders of the European Union this month.
Speaking to Bloomberg on Friday at the AIX-EN-PROVENCE event, French Industry Minister Marc Ferracci asked Europe to increase its defenses against Chinese imports.
Ferracci, “Another interested phenomenon is the aim of the United States and now the re -guidance of the Chinese flows that come to Europe,” he said. “China has built extreme capacities in a wide range of industries, which makes it very sensitive and quite dangerous for our industries.”
Lombard said that the new government coalition in Germany was an opportunity for Paris and Berlin to work closer together. He will meet his colleagues there in the coming weeks.
