Family members of two professional football players are among those who lost their lives in the double earthquake that hit Venezuela in the disaster that killed at least 1,450 people.

The reported victims include the wife and two children of Argentine football player Lucas Trejo, who was transferred to La Guaira’s Club Sport Marítimo. He searched for his wife Yanina and children Aaron and Ainhoa ​​among the rubble in the coastal city for three days before their bodies were found by rescuers.

“You gave your life for our daughter… you were a brave woman who never abandoned her, even when you took your last breath,” she wrote in her Instagram post.

According to Venezuelan football officials, the disaster also claimed the lives of young players Victor Palacios and Razan Sijaa. Palacios played for Club Sport San Augustín’s academy. Sijaa was playing for Caracas Football Club and died surrounded by his family at their home in La Guaira.
