Family ‘in shock’ after scientist Fortune Gomo killed in Dundee

Police ScotlandThe family of a scientist who was deadly injured in a street in Dundee at the weekend, said they are still shocked in the news.
Dr Fortune Gomo was treated by medical officials, but after an incident that the police treated as a murder, he died in the Lochee area of the city in the afternoon on Saturday.
Originally from Zimbabwe, Dr Gomo graduated from Dundee University with a doctorate and recently started to work for Scottish water.
His brother Regis Nyatsanza told BBC News that he would be 40 in a few weeks and discussed how to celebrate recently.
Talked about Zimbabwe, his sister’s biggest brothers – the family – the family was “assistant assistant”, he said.
“We were laughing at him two weeks ago, 40th birthday, but he said he had accomplished most of what he wanted.” He said.
“He had everything he wanted after the whole struggle, and that’s why he would make a quiet celebration.”
A 20 -year -old man was arrested in connection with the incident on the South Road of the city at 16:45.
He is expected to appear at the Dundee Sheriff Court on Monday.

Dr. Gomo’s friend Angela Machona wrote on Facebook that Zimbabve was at school and university with him and left the news of his death.
He said: “The brightness in the class matched only with his emotional intelligence. Not only the mind, but when you need clarity from the heart, he was the kind of kind of going.
“Our hearts are broken. You’re angry. We have lost its direction. But we are united in a single voice: Fortune Gomo is important. Life is important. Her heritage should never be forgotten.”
Collections were launched in Dundee to collect money for Dr Gomo’s family, and many flowers remained in the neighborhood of death in South Road.
A message added to one of those said: “We are completely shocked that this happened in our community. Angels can follow you.”
‘Extraordinary scientist’
After leaving Zimbabve. Gomo studied in the Netherlands. He spent his last 10 years in England continuing his academic and professional career.
After completing his PhD in Geography and Environmental Sciences at Dundee University, he spent a few years of water studies on water.
Six months ago, as a senior welding planner, he began to work full -time for Scottish Su.
Simon Parsons, Environmental Planning Director at Scottish Water, presented his deepest sympathy to the company’s family and friends.
He said: “Fortune was an extraordinary scientist and a senior service planner in our Dundee -based water resources planning department, where he joined us in February and became a very valuable and respected member of our team.”
Police said Dr Gomo’s family was supported by expert officers.
Det Supt Peter Sharp, led by the investigation, said that Inquuries continued, but there was no wider risk for the public.
