Family of hero guard Aidan Becker speak of ‘unimaginable loss’

The devastated family of hero security guard Aidan Becker, who died saving a schoolboy from a group of machete-wielding teenagers, have spoken of their “unimaginable loss”.

Mr Becker, 22, died after rescuing a 14-year-old boy who was allegedly being robbed on Bridge Inn Rd. in Melbourne’s north about 5.50pm on Friday.

A statement on behalf of Mr. Becker’s family was posted on the GoFundMe page on Monday.

“The Becker family grieves the unimaginable loss of their son and requests that their privacy be respected as they confront this devastating tragedy,” the statement said.

The page, which was set up to raise funds to support the Becker family, had raised nearly $70,000 as of noon Tuesday.

A service for Mr. Becker will be held on April 8, according to the GoFundMe page.

Four young men, aged between 16 and 18, were charged with murder and armed robbery in connection with the incident.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan said the community had been shaken by Mr Becker’s death.

“We are all shocked and saddened by the death of Aiden Becker at Mernda station,” Ms Allan said.

“I have authorized the Violence Reduction Unit to be on the ground in Mernda, work with police and schools to understand the factors behind this shocking act of violence, (and) work with the community to prevent further retaliation and tension.”
